Google for Education Lighthouse Tour

European Roadshow 2014

WONDER were tasked to help the Google for Education team put together a touring conference. Their aim was to champion the Lighthouse Schools already using Google products to great effect and to demonstrate how ‘going Google’ enhances the learning experiences of teachers and students in the classrrom.

The brief was ambitious, spanning multiple sites and requiring a high level of conceptual creativity. The tour initally consisted of a two-day programme at seven Lighthouse schools reaching teachers and pupils across the UK. However, this proved so successful that Google asked WONDER to roll it out across more European territories.

While devising the roadshow, we spotted an opportunity to up the ante. Rather than test the facilities and space at each location, we suggested a more spectacular approach – and one that wouldn’t interrupt the school day. We built a fully customised classroom within a standalone dome that could be easily transported from school to school.

The dome featured areas showcasing Android, Chromebook and tablet devices, as well as Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers. It also contained a library-cum-reading-nook, micro-kitchen and collaborative zone – along with the all-important classroom and presentation area.

The dome hosted talks and demos by Googlers, Lighthouse School senior management teams, teachers and other Google champions. Students also demonstrated how they used Google in a variety of school projects and assignments.

I have worked with Wonder on four big events so far, and each one has been a huge success. Each build has been creative, on-brand, and serves the commercial purpose well. Wonder consistently and brilliantly execute events, and I am very happy to recommend them highly.
